City receives two traffic vehicles
This afternoon as part of an ongoing agreement between the City of Belize and the City of Evanston, Illinois, the Belize City Council received two more vehicles for their Transport Department. Mayor David Fonseca says the sister city relationship was established in 1992 and the latest wheels, a 1996 and 2000 Crown Victoria, will compliment the two other patrol vehicles that were given two years ago.

“There is an agreement that we would get two vehicles per year until we say that we don’t need anymore vehicles. So we have gotten two more traffic vehicles because we believe that we need more in order for our troops to be more mobile, particularly for the highways, to go between the main city core and to the limits of the city, which is out to the two bridges, to control traffic in a better mode that we’re doing presently. So we asked this year again for two traffic vehicles and we have gotten them. Next year we’ll get two more and we’ll decide during the course of the year what type of vehicles we’ll get next year.”
Mayor Fonseca says the cars have been refitted with new parts including lights, a P.A. system, and tyres and should last for the next five years.
