Pilgrim death could go to inquest

Story Picture
One week after twenty-three year old San Pedro fisherman Leroy Pilgrim was shot and killed while being apprehended by police, the investigation has still not been completed. Commissioner of Police Jose Carmen Zetina this afternoon told News 5 that P.C. Caliz, who is accused of shooting Pilgrim in his head, remains on active duty while Assistant Commissioners Bernard Lino and Gerald Westby continue their investigations. Zetina says while the department has received a legal brief from the D.P.P.’s office, the matter may end up in a coroner’s inquest instead of criminal charges and a trial by jury. Pilgrim was shot to death on the night of February twelfth after police searched him. Police say during a struggle by the waterside the two men slipped and fell into the water, during which the gun went off fatally wounding Pilgrim.
