50 Thousand Pounds of Imported Ham for Christmas?
Drawing closer to Christmas, the thoughts of Belizeans turn to what size ham and turkey to get to feed their families. Local producers of the meats look to take advantage, as do importers. But this year, it appears that the importers are winning. News Five has received reports that a Chinese businessman will be allowed to import no less than fifty thousand pounds of ham for the Christmas, leaving local producers upset. This comes at the same time as reports that meats will now be allowed to be imported through the Free Zone at Benque Viejo. At news time we were not able to reach C.E.O. in the Ministry of Agriculture, Jose Alpuche, for comment.
