Minor Killed; Adult Male Severely Hurt in “Drive-by” Shooting

A minor is dead following a shooting incident on Daly Street this evening. The minor was accompanied by an adult who remains hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  Sometime around four-thirty p.m. they came under gunfire as they were making their way on a bicycle towards Craig Street.  It is reported that as many as six shots were fired in the direction of the duo as they were riding a short distance across from the Insurance Corporation of Belize building.  The succession of gunshots struck the passenger side window of a sports utility vehicle, leaving shards of glass strewn across the street, as well as a trail of blood from one of the injured victims.  News Five hasn’t been able to ascertain the names of the victims, but we were able to speak with Assistant Commissioner of Police Dezerie Phillips who has confirmed that the child succumbed to gunshot injuries.  At the scene of the shooting, we spoke with Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, Officer Commanding Crimes Investigation Branch at Eastern Division North.

“Sometime after four-thirty we received information of shots fired on Daly Street and so they proceeded to the K.H.M.H. where they observed two persons suffering from apparent gunshot wounds—an adult and a minor. Present on the scene here, we found six expended shells and a vehicle that was parked on the road was also damaged.”

“We understand that an adult and a minor were both injured in this incident. Could you confirm to us if this is a male adult and a female child?”
