Judge dismisses appeal of convicted murderer
Also in court, an appeal by Elvis Myers for a murder conviction was dismissed today. The appeal had been drawing plenty attention because its outcome could have affected thirty-eight rulings made by Justice Troadio Gonzalez. While the Appellate court did not give a reason for the dismissing the appeal, Myers’ conviction stands and he will return to prison to serve a life sentence. Myers’ attorney, Hubert Elrington, was appealing on the grounds that Justice Gonzalez had already passed the age of retirement when he heard the case and as such his ruling was null and void. Myers was convicted of Murder in November 2007 for fatally shooting Winfield Slusher and wounding PC Keith Cruz in December 2005.
