Doctor impersonator released by police
The strange death of Denfield Williams is no closer to resolution tonight as tests on the body remain inconclusive and a man who entered William’s hospital room impersonating a doctor has been released from police custody for lack of evidence. The release of Allen Garbutt Bol was made on the understanding that if further forensic testing suggests foul play, Garbutt would be taken in and charged. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Williams’s death, but while suspicion rests on Garbutt, the mystery is one of motive. Garbutt was acquainted with one of the deceased’s brothers, but it is not clear if he knew Denfield. Garbutt, who is HIV positive, has worked in the past as an HIV/AIDS counsellor, but is no longer associated with the Alliance Against AIDS or the National AIDS Commission. Associates of Garbutt tell News 5 that his behaviour has been unstable and he is known to drink heavily. In November, as part of a series of stories on people living with HIV and AIDS, Garbutt told News 5 that he had unprotected sexual intercourse with a large number of women during a period of time that he was HIV positive. Relatives of Williams, who had been hospitalised following an alleged beating by police in San Pedro, claim that Garbutt entered the hospital room where a semi-comatose Williams was on a respirator and touched him as well as some of the monitoring machines to which he was attached. A short time later Williams was dead.
