Museum celebrates 2nd birthday

Story Picture
There were balloons, a cake and yes, they even sang happy birthday, all in honour of the Museum of Belize’s second anniversary. February fifth is the D.O.B. of the M.O.B. and to mark the occasion, a brief ceremony was held this afternoon in Belize City. As part of the celebration, Minister of Tourism and Culture, Mark Espat, officially dedicated the ground floor gallery of the museum to Mrs. Meg Craig and family to symbolize the country’s gratitude for their invaluable contribution to the exhibits currently on display. According to Minister Espat, plans are in the pipeline to create similar bonds of friendship with other Belizeans and international friends.

Mark Espat, Minister of Tourism

“Next month we have a stamp display that will be kicking off and what we are trying to do, we are kicking off relations with other museums. Several museums we are talking to in New York for example where hopefully we can have the kind of exchange programmes that will keep exhibits turning over say every three months, six months at a maximum. Those are the kinds of relationships we are working on right now. A big part of it is marketing, making the displays available to students. We have close to seventy, seventy-five thousand students in school. Very soon we want to have a National Institute of Culture and History bus that will physically be able to bring students from the districts into Belize City to visit the museum. So we have a lot of ideas, and fortunately we have a very motivated staff and they, as a said in my brief talk, have brought a lot of character and personality to the museum and hopefully they can continue to push it as a product.”

The Museum of Belize has received important financial support from the Republic of China on Taiwan and the Inter-American Development Bank at critical stages of its development.
