S.J.C. offers panting course to adults
If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at painting but couldn’t decide how to go about it, here is your chance. The Art Department at Saint John’s College is offering an art course for the public. According to the department’s director, Michele Perdomo, the course will run for six months and is designed for those who want to explore their artistic side.

“This is the first year that we’re offering an adult art course for anybody, anyone over the age of eighteen. You don’t have to have had any art experience before. It’s an introduction, we started last August with an introduction to drawing, and starting this week we’re going to be offering an introduction to painting. And so we have this class from five-thirty in the evening to about seven, an hour and half on Tuesday and Thursday nights. So it’s after work hours so that people who work can still make it here. We give them a little break to get here by five-thirty.”
“They pay an art fee of one hundred and fifty dollars and that pays for all their paint but those that want to paint on canvas, they just have to buy the canvas, they can buy it at the book store, they can buy it downtown. And total cost for the whole semester–it costs about twenty-one dollars for all the canvass that they’ll need and then everybody just buys two brushes.”
Classes start this week, but space is limited so if you’d like to sign up, you need to call S.J.C.’s art department soon. At the end of the course, participants will get a certificate in introduction to painting.
