Wilfred Elrington Stands by “Naming” of “Rude, Disrespectful” Julius Espat
On Tuesday, the Chief Justice struck out a case brought against the Speaker of the House by Cayo South area rep Julius Espat. Espat argued that his removal from the House did not follow due process. Espat’s argument focuses on a technicality that when Pickstock area rep Wilfred Elrington got up to name him in the House, he did not; and hence his suspension—including the withholding of his salary—should be reversed. Espat further contends that the Speaker did not have the authority to request his removal from the National Assembly. While Elrington did not make comments on the pronouncement of the Chief Justice, he did condemn the actions of his colleague in the House.
Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington, Area Rep., Pickstock
“If Mister Julius Espat believes that his behavior is the type of behavior that Belizeans condone, then he came from a different school from mine. I have never saw a more despicable behavior in the house and in the country than his performance there. And I am ashamed that in fact his party—rather than seeking to discipline him—have in fact been circling the wagon. He should have been disciplined. It is no surprise that people are shooting and killing themselves and others on the streets because of the example that we give at the highest level. He was insufferably rude to the Speaker; I have never seen anybody so rude to the Speaker.”

“And by saying we sir, you are referring to government officials? Who is we?”
Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington
“I am saying that Julius Espat was insufferably rude to the Speaker of the National Assembly and disrespectful to the entire House. I thought that his behavior was disgraceful. I thought his behavior should have been condemned and I saw nothing wrong in the action taken by the Speaker and if I am called again to name him, I will name him because you cannot condone indiscipline and plaid behavior. That is a no, no. Where will it stop?”
And then their are the othr examples being set at the highest levels: paying thousands and millions of $$$ to minister families for not working or for rental of properties or for land repayments, witholding teachers pay, wildly spending monies just before elections that now have to be paid back, illegally sellig passports and visas, using department monies to pay for minister personal expenses, paying family members for millions of $$ in legal fees with little success in Courts, hiring family members for cushy jobs with thousands of $$ in salary,……And what do we have to show: – high unemployment, high crime, low convction rate, unsolved murders, deep recession, no improvemnt in education levels or successes, higher taxes, inflation……the best is yet to come!
