Compol apologises for aggressive search

Story Picture
Five days after three police officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit entered the premises of sixty-seven year old Douglas Gill and conducted an aggressive and fruitless search, today the police admitted that the operation was executed unprofessionally. But the acknowledgement did not come by way of any police press release. Instead, Gill was paid a special visit by the nation’s top law enforcement official. That’s right, Police Commissioner Carmen Zetina travelled to number seventy-five Vernon Street and told Gill he is sorry for the way his officers behaved on the morning of January tenth. News 5 was right behind the Commissioner as he sought to make things right.

Carmen Zetina, Commissioner of Police

“I know we haven’t personally met, but you have seen me many times before. The Englishman would say you’ve seen me through the tubes.”

Douglas Gill

“Oh yes.”

Carmen Zetina

“Well I think you know why we’re here…I must say that I didn’t look at the television what came across for the past two nights, but I get concerned because I heard it this morning on the radio being blasted…and I went in depth as to what happened and I must tell you that from what I see, indeed the police acted unprofessionally. But I want you to understand that our actions in coming to search here were based on what we termed then as a credible informant. This informant had given us good information in the past that has paid off. But I think this time we might have acted and relied too much on the information we got. We did it, but it was the way it was done. And on behalf of the department I must apologise to you what happened because when I approached the officer, who is Mr. Williams–actually he is in charge of the men that came here that morning–yes, he confirmed to me that the way they did it, in the sense that he spoke to his men yesterday and they didn’t hide anything that they just pushed through things and I think that was very unprofessional. And because of that I spoke to Mr. Reid that just as I am big enough or strong enough to police aggressively, I take all the strength too to come and apologise to you for what I believe are the perceived wrong doings on the part of the Police Department. So please accept out apologies.”

Douglas Gill

“I surely do.”
