Business manager arrested for theft
He is charged for the crime of theft, but if police have their way, a twenty-two year old businessman will have a lot more questions to answer. Brian Humes, manager of Mike’s Spare Parts in Dangriga for the last year and a half, was arrested and charged on Monday after an audit of the accounts of the automotive repair and parts store revealed that one hundred and thirty-six thousand, five hundred and four dollars was missing. According to police, owner of the franchise, Luis Urbina Senior, reported to them that an audit covering the period of June 2002 to December 2003, discovered the shortfall. Humes, who lives in Orange Walk, was detained over the weekend by police there and handed over to their Dangriga counterparts who took him before Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Humes has pleaded not guilty to the charge and has been remanded to police custody until a bail hearing on Thursday morning. New 5 understands that because of the amount of money involved, the case will be forwarded for trial in the Supreme Court.
