Rural All Stars top Yabra United

Story Picture
Good evening I’m James Adderley with yet another dish of Sports Monday. Week six of the B.P.F.L.’s B League brought a monster showdown to the Sandhill field yesterday as Belize Rural All Stars hosted Yabra United of Belize City.

We join the action as the host team Rural attacks with this nice heel play that allow Eden “Yellowman” Rawley to fire, but it’s blocked and the put back by Jermaine Zuniga is no good.

With the home field advantage, the Rural team assumes the role of the protagonist and indeed Jermaine Zuniga should have converted off this Tyrone Muschamp set.

The pressure does pay off when Anthony Humes centres into the danger zone. Yabra’s attempt to clear, gives the pill to Tyrone Muschamp and the Stars grab a 1-zip lead twenty-four minutes in.

Off this spot kick Jermaine Zuniga looks to make it 2-nil, but again he misses with the header. Meanwhile, another defence error almost leads to another Rural goal, but Deon Lopez recovers in time to make the stop, and at the half we’ve got a 1-nil Rural lead with no Yabra highlights to show.

So we go to the second and it’s a different Yabra team that shows up, and indeed Leon Smith should have tied to ballgame right here. At the other end, Tyrone Muschamp fires at goal. The rebound reaches Zuniga who is all alone, and his right away punch makes it 2-nil. On this trip down court again Yabra looks for Smith and again he falls short.

Now keep your eyes on this spotkick from Denroy Lopez–it creates a mad scramble in front of the goal, Thomas Rodriguez sneaks in with a right foot push that somehow beats Charles Flores and we’ve got a 2-1 ballgame.

Are you a collector of bizarre and strange occurrences–well here’s one for you. Deon Williams the Yabra keeper, picks up spotkick from Henry Gillette, it’s a live ball when he throws it down, but nobody is paying attention except for Sylvian Lyons, who picks it up as it crosses the eighteen to score into an empty net.

Yabra goes into outrage over the call–and eventually it is rescinded by the referee, probably in an attempt to keep the peace, but believe it or not that goal is good guys.

Nevertheless, it’s back to the action and Sylvian Lyons makes a move to put the game away, but he is foiled by Williams.

Yabra then looks for the equaliser off this spotkick that is misplayed by Flores, but Rodriguez squanders the opportunity by fouling the keeper.

In the closing minutes Tyrone Muschamp mounts this marvellous individual effort that embarrasses the Yabra defence and forces the 3-1 final score as Rural wins.

In other results from around the Hattieville S.C. clubbed Youth for the Future 4-2, Caye Caulker handled A.C. Milan with a 1-2 score on the road.

Turning to the cycling scene, the SanCas team made a clean sweep of yesterday’s seventy-six mile race presented by the Belize Cycling Association on the Western Highway when Mateo Cruz took top honours in a time of three hours, nine minutes. He was ably assisted by his teammate Ernest Meighan finished second, and Ariel Rosado third; that’s a SanCas sweep. Kegan Flowers of B.T.L. Fusion picked up fourth, while Quinton Hamilton of Guinness Smiling rounds out the top five.

That’s it for now, we invite you back same time, same place, next week. Jah over all! I’m James Adderley.
