Corozal teen injured in freak attack
While an edged tool was the weapon of choice in the Corozal murder, in Orange Walk a senseless act involving a chunk of concrete has left a sixteen-year old boy hospitalised in critical condition. Police say that on Sunday night, Francisco Cawich and a group of friends were hanging out on the side of the Northern Highway in San Lorenzo Village, when a concrete construction peg was thrown in their direction from a passing Ford Ranger pickup. The brick found its mark on Cawich’s head, fracturing his skull. He was first taken to the Northern Regional Hospital, but has since been transferred to the K.H.M.H. where he remains in critical condition. Initial police investigations have revealed that Cawich was not the intended target of the missile. The cops have interviewed Cawich’s friends since the injured youth is not able to speak with authorities. Police in Orange Walk say three people who are being questioned in connection with Sunday night’s incident will be released shortly if no evidence linking them to the assault is found.
