Taken from bar, man’s throat slashed

Story Picture
Authorities have not been so fortunate in the city’s other New Year’s homicide.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting

Family and friends call Gilbert Williams Miller, the quiet one. So when the twenty-six year old’s mutilated body was found early New Year’s Day, on the side of this stretch of Sunray Avenue in Coral Grove, at first it was hard to believe the news. But Dorla Williams says from the description given, she knew it could be no one but her son.

“He had on a red pants and he had a “back a town” tattoo when my cousin received the phone call. And I said to her, I know that is my son because he did not come home because I was worrying about him all night. So I tell them you go because I know it is Gilbert. I wake up, I open the door when I hear a knocking and nobody at the door.”

On Wednesday night, Gilbert left his family’s house to bring in the new year at Queen’s Club on Baymen Avenue. It is not sure what may have happened, but the last time he was seen alive, was in front of the club talking with several people inside a grey car. Authorities are investigating the report, but sources tell News 5 the young man was kidnapped from the outside the club and then killed.

“He is not that kind of violent, he no violence like that. He is not that kind of boy they. He is not violence boy.”

Late last year the deceased’s brother, Marlon Miller, was on News 5 speaking out against violence and urging those involved in crime to stop the killing. Now that crime has taken the life of a loved one, Miller says the only thing he seeks is justice.

“I noh really want revenge for nothing, you know but I would want justice. I would want them to find the killer or murderer you know. Who know who do it at least to come forward and say something because the my blood that and I noh into no revenge or nothing, but I want to see some justice… I will stay focus and thing and try give the youths a better advice and thing and try to be a role model in music and thing, but man.”

Dorla Williams says her son was tortured and died a cruel death, and she is appealing to anyone who may know what happened to help the police not let the killer get away with the crime.

Because the like they were torturing him the way they say they cut his throat, so I wish they would find the person who did my son this.”

Up to news time, the police had yet to detain any suspects.
