One dead, one injured in Western Hwy. mishap

Story Picture
A traffic accident on the Western Highway near the Faber’s Road junction in Belize City has claimed one man’s life and left his passenger seriously injured. Around eight-fifteen this morning a small pickup truck heading west on the highway made a left turn into an automotive shop at mile two and a half. But before the small vehicle could exit the road, an oncoming dump truck loaded with aggregate slammed into the side of the pickup. The resulting impact threw the driver of the pickup, fifty-seven year old Shen Suzuki, from the mangled vehicle, killing him on the spot. The other occupant of the pickup, twenty-three year old Evan Martinez, remained inside while the vehicle was dragged a couple hundred feet from first impact. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition. The dump truck, driven by thirty-one year old Alberto McLaughlin and belonging to Marin’s trucking service, overturned in the process.
