Carl Reneau to Court for Jaheem Mahler Murder
The accused gunman in the murder of Jaheem Mahler was escorted to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for arraignment this morning. Twenty-eight year old Carl Reneau appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser wearing a grey shirt which had the words, “These guns are loaded,” displayed on it with the picture of well-known cartoon character, Popeye. He was remanded into custody since bail cannot be offered in cases of murder. On Tuesday night, Mahler was riding in the company of two other teenagers, when he was shot multiple times to the chest, back, hand and feet on Iguana Street Extension. It is not the first time Reneau is charged for murder. In 2010, he walked from the charge for the murder of Brian Benji Williams at the lower court because his file could not be located. Williams was shot about eight times and killed on March ninth, 2009 while painting a house. The gunman reportedly told a four-year-old boy who was in the yard with his target, to go inside the house because he was going to kill Williams, but his case did not proceed to trial at the Supreme Court.
