Off duty cop collars chain snatcher
In crime news, the weekend passed without any deadly violence and police made a number of arrests and detentions for incidents nationwide. These include two men detained for a Belize City robbery, two more for a chopping in Orange Walk and a trio who have been charged with preparing to commit a robbery. Two accused chain snatchers were apprehended in separate incidents, with the jacker in Belize City being cuffed by an off duty policeman. That officer, George Lightfoot, was leaving a softball game a Roger’s Stadium Sunday night, when he saw a woman being punched and a gold chain ripped from her neck. Lightfoot, who was not in uniform, confronted the assailant, twenty-year-old Alex Jimmy Bodden, and made the arrest. Meanwhile, in Punta Gorda, a Guatemalan about to board a boat for Puerto Barrios on Saturday was stopped, and after what must have been a very thorough search, police found over a pound of what they believe to be heroin hidden in each of his shoes. Juan Carlos Gonzalez is expected to be charged Tuesday in Punta Gorda Magistrate’s Court.
