Denys Barrow Off to C.C.J. – as a Judge

Senior Counsel Denys Barrow has been a key Government helpmate in legal cases for many years, but he now appears to be moving on. He has confirmed that he has been selected by the regionally appointed and non-political Judicial and Legal Services Commission to take up an appointment as a judge on the Caribbean Court of Justice, in June, subject to certain things that need to be completed before he is sworn in. Once that takes place, he replaces Justice Rolston Nelson, who retires at the end of May. Barrow has previously been a judge on the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and on the Belize Court of Appeal, where after eighteen months he resigned.  In the case of the C.C.J., he confirmed to News Five that he will not sit on any case he worked on that is before the Court or may end up there.  Barrow is tenured and will serve until retirement, and will be living near the seat of the court in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
