It may be a while before any Ministers of Government are called before the Senate Special Select Committee on Immigration, but quite a few, past and present, have had to sweat out recent weeks as their names were called in relation to overweening influence in the activities of the Department. Belize Rural South representative and Minister Manuel Heredia Junior has some questions to answer, and he told us that he has nothing to fear if he is called to a future public hearing.

“There is nothing illegal that I did in recommending people; there is nothing they can I find that I said, ‘instructed or do otherwise that they should do this,’ it is just a recommendation and that is my job as a legislator to recommend. And I have said it to Channel Five, Channel Seven, that if they want to question me or any interrogation – I am willing to do so, because I know that I [haven’t] done anything wrong; there is no evidence whatsoever that will point to me as doing anything that is illegal. If I recommend and something went wrong afterward, that is not me; that is the person that process.  Not me.”
