No guns used in series of city muggings

Police report that a series of jackings were committed in Belize City on Wednesday, all of which appear remarkably similar in nature. At around six-thirty p.m. on Gibnut Street an eighteen-year-old woman was accosted by two men, with one of them grabbing her neck while the other took away her cell phone. On Water Lane a thirty-year old man was robbed of one hundred and thirty dollars by three men, two of whom grabbed his neck while the third took his cash. Meanwhile, around eight-thirty a twenty-four year old woman was robbed by two men as she walked down Central American Boulevard. One put a knife to her throat while the other relieved her of her cell phone. Earlier that day, around ten-thirty a.m. a nineteen-year-old woman tried to fight off her attackers, but in the end suffered the same fate as the day’s other victims. She told police that while walking down St. Peter Street a man on a bicycle tried to grab her chain, but she punched him in the face. A scuffle ensued and while the jacker did manage to rip the chain from her neck and ride off, she was able to retain a piece of it.
