Almagro tours Guatemala border communities
As we’ve mentioned, Almagro arrived to Belize from Guatemala. While there, he was accompanied by Foreign Minister Carlos Raul Morales to several communities, including Monte Los Olivos and Las Flores. According to Almagro, being on the ground has given him a better appreciation of the challenges that the border communities are faced with.
Luis Almagro, Secretary General, O.A.S
“On the fifteenth, we visited Guatemala and we were received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Raul Morales, we had a meeting with him and we talked about different issues related to the relationship between Guatemala and the Organization of American States and, as well, the work in the Adjacency Zone. With Minister Morales we visited the communities of San Jose, Las Flores, Chiquibul, San Marcos, Monte Los Olivos and Santa Cruz and we really appreciated the opportunity that we had to talk to the people of those communities that was very important for us to see how, it was very gratifying and I am extremely grateful to see these people and how they work hard to overcome the difficulties and the problems that they have and that they have to confront everyday.”
We’ll have more on the Secretary General’s visit and the views of the Leader of the Opposition, John Briceño later in the newscast.
