Unionists can resolve differences, says Neal

Neal was most recently an aide to Audrey Matura while she was vice-president at OCEANA, and he started out in the Government Information Service with stints at old United Democratic Party organs the People’s Pulse and previously the Beacon. Politics aside, is Neal the man to bridge the divide between more militant elements of the Congress and their moderate and conservative fellows? Neal reminded that their common cause is the benefit of all Belizean workers.

“There will be differences but we’re all adults at T.U.C., we’re all committed to try to get a better deal for Belizean workers. We’re committed; we’re passionate about this union movement. So there is sufficient space, even though we might have our differences, to stay focused on what needs to be the mission. So I have no doubt that once we meet at the table, we will be able to decide how do we change the narrative, how do we change the image of T.U.C. out there among the Belizean workers – that will happen, I don’t have any fear about that. We don’t have an option but to make it happen, really.”

“Now we know there have been misgivings that were publicly aired about the N.T.U.C.B. – both from the B.N.T.U. during its’ negotiations with the Government and we also heard from the utilities I believe, that they had some apprehensions about the N.T.U.C.B.’s process I think at the time for electing the Senator – the utility unions had put out a letter; so we had this infighting, sort of, this low grade infighting.”

“It is a dynamic organization; there are some strong personalities involved; there will be differences. But we are all adults at this table; I am convinced we know what the mission is, we know what we need to do – to change the narrative, to change the image, and we will get it done; I don’t have any doubt about that.”
