New books add to environmental curriculum
This evening two publications: an environmental activity guide and manual, were handed over to the Ministry of Education by the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor Project and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef Systems Project. The books will be used by primary and secondary school teachers as part of their environmental curriculum. The organisations believe the information will not only enhance the students’ learning, but will help to sustain the country’s natural resources.
Nelson Longsworth, Acting Director, QUADS
“From the Ministry of Education perspective, built around education is quality education and relevant to our children. And so in the initiative to develop our comprehensive curriculum, there are all in there to a certain degree. And these initiatives here are now to support that curriculum. Through these manuals, this is one way in which we can collaboratively get the teachers in being better equipped in delivery in the classroom.”
Anselmo Castaneda, National Liaison Officer, M.B.C.
“Basically what we are using this concept within conservation biology is to essentially conserve the biodiversity so that in the end our people who live in this bridge that joins South and North America, can continue having access to those resources that we depend on for everyday living.”
A Training for Trainers Workshop will be held for teachers to instruct them on how to use the activity guides and manuals as tools in the classroom.
