Said Musa Raises Reported Dismissal of European Ambassador

Said Musa

Fort George Area Rep and Former Prime Minister, Said Musa, is always a must listen to during the debating of the budget and on Thursday during his presentation, he didn’t disappoint. Musa took aim at the Prime Minister over the ballooning Superbond which, according to the veteran politician, has tripled since the U.D.P. took over government. While Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Patrick Faber was also targeted, Musa concluded his presentation by calling out the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wilfred Elrington for the mismanagement of international relations, zeroing in on Belize’s Ambassador to Austria Joel Nagel who’s appointment has been canceled by the Austrian government.  Nagel owns extensive property in San Pedro and Austria and was reportedly warned by the host government that he could not do business and diplomacy at the same time.

Said Musa, Area Rep., Fort George

“I cannot conclude my remarks Madam Speaker on the budget today without saying something about the shameful mismanagement of our foreign affairs and international relations under the present minister. I will not hold him responsible for the fact that the ambassador that he appointed in Vienna, Austria has been…his agremont has been canceled by the Austrian government. Are you aware of that minister? You are, okay. The Austrian government canceled him; not the Belize. Belize government appointed him and the Austrian government…hold on, hold on, hold on. (Laughs) Looks like now I have to hold him responsible; he knows so much about it. This man—sorry I have to call his name, but it is fact—Mister Joel Nagel was caught doing banking business when he was support to be doing ambassadorial work. This is the same man that had a bank in San Pedro, Caye Bank. He was appointed ambassador in Austria.”

Laura Longsworth, Speaker of the House

“I hope that’s a fact member. I hope that’s factual; that whatever you are saying is factual.”

Said Musa

“Yes, I think the minister can confirm that.”

The Prime Minister will be wrapping up the debate tonight.
