Cordel Says U.D.P. Must Own “Its Corruption”

Lake I Representative, Cordel Hyde turned the tables on the U.D.P. on the issue of corruption in his budget presentation on Thursday. The U.D.P. has continuously shaken their fingers against their predecessors in office about charges of corruption, but Hyde says the U.D.P. administration itself has much to answer for, including consistent feeding of alleged cronies, misuse of funds such as Petrocaribe and more recently the Immigration and other major scandals that keep Belizeans on the edge of their seats, but also heartsick.

“What about the over seven million dollars that the public service is paying for rents and leases of office space and dwelling quarters, most from well connected U.D.P. cronies? It is U.D.P. corruption, U.D.P. collusion and U.D.P. cronyism. Plain and simple.  That’s what some of that Petrocaribe money should have been used for. We should have lent some small farmers at very low interest rate since we are getting the money at one percent. The money was for poverty alleviation, but instead we used it for U.D.P. to win elections. Now the bills are due and we ain’t got no money to pay. When the economy was good and you were swimming in the Petrocaribe millions, it was all about the U.D.P. and their good stewardship of the economy. But now that we are in the dark days of a recession and the days ahead seem darker, it’s because of the People’s United Party. Man own up to unu shortcomings and incompetence. Own up to unu corruption. Own up to unu collusion. Own up to unu cronyism.
