Overnight Shooting Leaves Man Hospitalized

Ron Myvett

Overnight gun violence in the south side of Belize City has left one man hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Just minutes before eight p.m. on Thursday shots rang out on Neal Pen Road; twenty-six year old Ron Myvett was hit once to the back after a lone gunman reportedly came up from behind and fired multiple shots at him. Myvett was on his way home when the attempt was made on his life. A police patrol in proximity to the shooting responded within minutes to find a wounded Myvett on the pavement. He was rushed to the K.H.M.H. by a BERT ambulance before going into an emergency surgery to remove the bullet from his body. News Five spoke today with his common-law wife who says that Myvett is recovering from the shooting.

Voice of: Common-law Wife of Shooting Victim

“I think it was about eight last night, we were going to meet each other; he was coming home. Half way me meeting him, there were two shots fired; I ran for cover and when I got up back, they told me that it was my spouse.”

Duane Moody

“How many times was he shot and what happened thereafter?”

Voice of: Common-law Wife

“He was shot once and then we had to wait for the police and then the ambulance to take him.”

Duane Moody

“Was he still talking after he was shot?”

Voice of: Common-law Wife
“Yes he was fully conscious all the way to the hospital, going into the theatre; he has feeling and everything like that.”

Duane Moody

“What is the prognosis right now in terms of his health; I understand that he underwent surgery last night.”

Voice of: Common-law Wife
“Yes he did undergo surgery; he came out. He’s still recovering and he should be okay.”

Duane Moody

“Did he speak to you any at all about his life being threatened? Why would anyone want to make an attempt on his life?”

Voice of: Common-law Wife
“Well to speak on that, he didn’t say anything; he didn’t get any threat from anyone from couple years, couple months….not recently. No threats at all.”

Duane Moody

“So it was a big surprise?”

Voice of: Common-law Wife
“Well everybody knows that yes it might be a surprise because to find out that something happen to your spouse, it is a surprise. But I wouldn’t say that he is an angel or anything like that.”

Myvett remains hospitalized in a stable condition as police investigations continue.
