Selvin Bahadur Gunned Down on Jones Street

Selvin Bahadur

As the weekend came to a close, the fifth murder for the Old Capital occurred on Jones Street where a forty-year-old was gunned down in front of his gate. Selvin Bahadur was executed, shot to the forehead at the same spot his younger brother had been murdered months ago. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Shortly after ten o’clock on Sunday night, gunshots rang out on Jones Street, startling residents in the immediate vicinity who had already retired for the evening.  When they peeped outside to investigate, they discovered their neighbor lying on the ground motionless.  Forty-year-old Selvin Bahadur, as he was later identified, had been shot to the middle of his forehead.

ACP Chester Williams, O.C., Eastern Division South

“Last night around ten p.m. thereabout, one Selvin Bahadur was riding a bicycle on Jones Street, St. Martin’s area when he was approached by a lone gunman who fired two shots at him, one of which caught him to the head.  He was taken to the K.H.M.H. and about an hour later he succumbed to his injuries.  The police are currently looking for one person of interest in respect to that matter and we are hoping that that person will be caught today and we should be able to arrest and charge that person in respect to the murder of Mr. Bahadur which took place last night.”

The irony, regrettably, is that Bahadur fell dead in front of his gate, the very location where his younger sibling was shot and killed almost eight months ago.

According to ACP Chester Williams, there is an ongoing feud among rival groups within the community.

ACP Chester Williams

“There is a rivalry in the St. Martin’s area between the Backa Lands and the PIV crowd and we have been in that area.  We have stepped up our patrols.  We have put in additional patrols in that area with a view to try and curb the situation, but as the commissioner has said earlier, the elements in those areas do monitor the movement of the police and when the police move to one area then they take the opportunity to strike in another area.  So we are looking at other things that we’ll be doing.  We are in the process of installing some surveillance cameras and the St. Martin’s area will be the recipient of a number of surveillance cameras.”
