P.U.P. Calls for Renewed Fight on Crime; Hits G.O.B. on Budget Cuts

The People’s United Party says it is gravely concerned by the government’s seemingly flippant inattention to the spiralling crime.  Earlier today, the P.U.P. issued a release noting that the government has cut the budget for the police by two million dollars at the most inopportune time.  Over the weekend, eight persons lost their lives, including a cop who was fatally stabbed by a man who walked into the Racoon Street Police Station and killed PC Marvin Locke.  The P.U.P. says the cuts in the budget take place despite that 2016 recorded the second to the highest number of murders in last five years.  The party also points out that there were no new allocations to the prosecution arm of the police, but notes a reduction on the judiciary allocation. Says the release, “Mister Barrow and his U.D.P. Ministers must be living in another, crime free country. Either that or on his lofty pedestal of luxury; he is completely oblivious to the blood running on the streets.” The P.U.P. criticizes the government for continuing to meddle and taint the police department damaging its effectiveness.  It points out that the administration refuses to finance a DNA Testing/ Forensic Lab and refuses to address the poverty and frustration which are dominant factors in crime in the City. The release says government continues to pay tens of millions to special attorneys, but cuts budget allocations to the police and judiciary even as it enjoys a cosy relationship with the underground figures. The P.U.P. says it is prepared to engage in any serious resolve to fight crime. It ends with a call to the PM to dig deep to find the resolve before the country is lost and we become prisoners of the lawlessness and violence which are already pervasive.
