Victim Pulls Out of Child Molestation Case

Jose Romero

Tonight, a San Pedro security guard in his mid-sixties accused of molesting an eight-year-old girl is a free man. Sixty-seven-year-old Jose Romero walked from the serious offense for carnal knowledge of the child when the alleged victim chose not to testify against him.  Prosecutor in the case, Sherigne Rodriguez, called two witnesses to the stand before Romero was set free.  They included the child, who is now fifteen years, and her mother; both told the court that they did not wish to proceed with the matter.  The girl was able to identify Romero, but did not provide any evidence to prove the allegations that he had sexually abused her.   Prosecutor Rodriguez entered a nolle prosequi and he was free to go. The young girl made the allegation against Romero in February 2010.  He was arrested and sent behind bars. Romero was represented by attorney, Simeon Sampson who had no question for the victim before she left the stand.
