Firearm seizures continue

More unlicensed and prohibited firearms continue to be taken off the streets, some as the result of the Police Department’s Cash for Information programme. The latest seizure involves a sawed off shotgun discovered at a house in the Belama area of Belize City. Arrested was twenty-year-old Moises Shoman. The shotgun, with its original full-length barrel, had been reported stolen a week or so earlier from a residence in the same neighbourhood.

Over the weekend police arrested a seventeen year old in Belize City for possession of an unlicensed twenty-five calibre automatic pistol, while a search of a vehicle on the Western Highway led to the discovery of a sawed-off twelve gauge shotgun, along with two shells. Arrested were twenty-six year old Anthony Sutherland, twenty-four year old Carl Baird, eighteen-year-old Darrel Vernon and a seventeen year old, all from Belize City. They were charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unlicensed ammunition.
