PM expects Maya land case to result in appeals
When we caught up with him at the National Teachers’ Day celebration in Belmopan, the prime minister also spoke about the ongoing Maya land rights case and on the decision of the Chief Justice to quash the former Prime Minister Said Musa’s committal to stand trial for Theft at the Supreme Court level.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“We must respect the decision of the court even if we don’t agree with it.”
Jose Sanchez
“What are your comments on the Maya land rights case that is currently before the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice? “
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“I don’t know what I can say except that the government certainly is convinced that this issue must be ventilated at the highest level. It is a huge policy issue. It is a huge national issue and I believe that no matter which way the decision at first instance goes, there will be appeals.”
