D-Revelation rocks with spiritual sounds

Story Picture
With the recent onslaught of depressing news on the crime front it’s easy to forget that there are many positive developments taking place in Belize. One is the steady growth in a new kind of religious commitment by Belizeans, particularly among young people. For many, that devotion coalesces around the music of one popular band.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting

Seventeen years ago a number of Christian musicians got together and formed the D-Revelation Band. Today, the group remains strong with a number of hits like, Payday and Gloria and Jam with the Lamb already under its belt.

Louis Wade, Manager, D-Revelation Band

“The band is really a family, a group of friends. And that is one of the things that have allowed D-Revelation to survive through the years.”

The band’s latest release, Real Man, is the group’s first integral dramatic production. The band’s manager and one of its founding members Louis Wade says unlike the previous releases, the new compositions form a comprehensive message.

“Of course the critics out there and the fans will have the opportunity to listen to it for themselves and most likely I hope recognize that yes, its an artwork, it is more than just a C.D. containing thirteen songs for us. It is something that we have taken our time to get just the proper songs to make it authentic Caribbean. We’ve put together what we believe are the proper songs with the right message and we have sewn the entire thing together as one unique package rather than just thirteen individual songs.”

In recent years, Christian bands like D-Revelation and the Heavenlies have managed to capture a large countrywide audience. Today the artists’ works are prominently featured in the country’s only full colour religious magazine, Perspective. Wade is the publications manager.

“Perspective magazine is an excellent forum where people can subscribe to it get information of what’s taking place in the Christian music entertainment industry that is on the rise, or the market in Belize. But Perspectives magazine is also available in bookstores countrywide. It comes out every month to every other month, and this year we’re celebrating our first anniversary.”

Topical issues are also in the magazine. Jacqueline Woods for News 5.
