An end to Honduras dispute in sight

In regional news, an end to the dispute between ousted Honduran president Manuel Zelaya and the interim government of Roberto Micheletti is in sight. That is after a power-sharing agreement, mediated by the US government, was signed between the parties to have the Honduran congress decide on whether Zelaya will be restored to power for the last few months of his term. Zelaya says he feels that the deal will have him re-instated within the next week and he will remain at the Brazilian Embassy until then. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Tom Shannon, was sent to mediate along with a US delegation on Wednesday, four months after Zelaya was ousted in an early morning coup. Governments worldwide advocated for Zelaya’s reinstatement and threatened not to honor the upcoming elections on November twenty-ninth, if democracy was not restored.
