Crooked Tree man executed gangland style in O.W.

Jealous lover? Mistaken identity? Or none of the above. Orange Walk police are tonight trying to figure out the motive for the late night execution style murder of a Crooked Tree man on Sunday. According to reports, eighteen-year-old electrician Russell Tillett and his girlfriend from Orange Walk were hanging out in the couple’s car around ten-forty-five on independence night in the Louisiana area near the New River, when they were approached by three men. Exactly what happened next is not entirely clear, but reports to News 5 indicate that Tillett was stripped naked, tied up, and shot in the back of his head. Police say robbery does not seem to be a motive in the murder as several items of value were left behind. Tillett’s girlfriend has given police a vague account of the incident, which includes a description of the three assailants, whom she described as being of Hispanic descent. Orange Walk police have detained five people for questioning.

The five murders reported in tonight’s newscast bring the total for September to ten, while the count since January first stands at fifty-four.
