Killing of city merchant one of five murders
He’s been a well-known member of the business community for over forty-five years. Tonight sixty-four year old Innis Leal is dead, the victim of a robbery and murder this morning that has stunned his Belize City neighbourhood. According to family members who were upstairs at the time, Leal was alone in Blankie’s Store at number sixty Pickstock Street when they heard at least three gunshots ring out, followed by the shouts of neighbours. Family members we spoke to say Leal, who was shot in the face, died on the spot. Before escaping, the robbers emptied his wallet containing a couple hundred dollars and made off with his licensed point thirty-two Revolver. Sources say the fatal bullets were not fired by the thirty-two and likely came from a thirty-eight belonging to the killers. Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid told News 5 that the cops are looking for two suspects described as being of dark complexion and in their mid-twenties, who were seen running away in the direction of Lovely Lane. Innis Leal leaves a wife and six children.
