Rape Victim Bows Out of Court Hearing

A woman alleged that she was held hostage, beaten up badly then raped by an attacker who left her locked up in a house.  She resorted to a machete, but her attacker used it on her and she was left naked and bleeding when two men rescued her.  But today, after two days of trial, the case of Everette Davis, an electrician of Belize City, fell apart after the victim a fifty-year-old woman took the stand and said she did not wish to proceed with trial.  Prosecutor in the case, Crown Counsel Sherigne Rodriguez also told the court that the ordeal lasted for seven hours back on March fifteenth, 2015.  But after Prosecutor Rodriguez could not get her victim to speak of her ordeal in court today, she closed her case without being able to prove the elements of rape and wounding.   Attorney for Davis, Leeroy Banner, made a no-case submission before Justice Adolph Lucas asking the court to consider that there was no evidence to show that the victim was carnally known by the accused without her consent and that Davis was the person who inflicted any injury on her.   Judge Lucas agreed and upheld the no-case submission and directed the jury to find Davis not guilty of rape and wounding. This evening, Davis walked free of the charges.
