No Rally for N.T.U.C.B. as Message Talks Tough
The National Trade Union Congress of Belize, for the first time in recent memory, is not marking Labour Day with a parade and rally. It is announced at the very end of their Labour Day message, which states that N.T.U.C.B. takes no pride in acknowledging that this year we could not muster even the modest parade and rally with which we have observed Labour Day in the recent past. The message says that basic steps must be taken to fulfil the objective and mission of this year’s theme, “Keeping Workers in the Forefront of National Development.” The Congress acknowledges the momentous past year for unionism, including the successful strike by the Belize National Teachers’ Union on the good governance agenda, and repeats the need for the Occupational Safety and Health Act and reducing Government waste and corruption.
