Mexican friendship fair opens in city
Trick question…what do cerveza Superior, tacos and a mechanical bull all have in common? They’ll all be at the Belize-Mexico Friendship fair this weekend in Belize City. For the third-year running organisers have cooked up a five day programme which includes dance, music, food and fun. According to Mexican Ambassador to Belize, Arturo Trejo, the fair is a carefully planned event designed to bring the people from both sides of the border even closer together.

“We have restarted this fair, which I think is very important to bring Mexican and Belizean people together. Of course for Mexico to show off these performances is part of our cultural projection, and well the ties are so close, familiar ties, and friendship ties between Mexican and Belizean individuals so that many people come and enjoy that. And for that, well there is a pride to be able to show all this very rich folkloric presentations, our music or food. And this has been very widely accepted by the Belizean public, so we hope that this time, as it has been already in the past three years, we will have many people coming and enjoying all we have to offer.”
Organisers of the event are Cerveceria Cuahtemoc de Moctezuma, the Embassy of Mexico and the Belize City Council. Official opening ceremonies are scheduled for seven-thirty Friday night at Memorial Park.
