Michael Bonilla’s Murder Case Still Open
Last Thursday, nineteen-year-old Michael Bonilla was cut down in a hail of bullets as he rode his bicycle along Elston Kerr Street. The incident transpired behind Gwen Lizarraga High School in an area that is known to be gang infested. Despite the location of the deadly shooting, Belize City police are on record refuting claims that the murder may have been the result of gang rivalry. But that’s as far as their investigation has proven. Earlier this evening, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, told the media that very little has been uncovered in the murder of Bonilla.

“At this time we have no update. We had two persons in custody in respect to that matter and we had to release them due to the lack of evidence. Mr. Bonilla was not known to the police, as you have said, and that makes it even more difficult to investigate his murder. But the case remains open and we are calling on anyone who may have any information that could lead to the arrest of any individual who may be involved, to please feel free to contact us and we’ll follow up whatever information that may out there that could assist the police.”
