Chinese Assn. donates to feeding programme

Story Picture
With the opening of primary schools set for next week, the nation’s feeding programmes are getting ready to supply hot meals to needy children. The task for the kitchen at the Queen Street Baptist School will be a little easier, at least for the first few weeks, thanks to several boxes of groceries and supplies provided by the Belize Chinese Association.

Ingrid Hepburn, Principal, Queen St. Baptist School

“Well we have a school canteen, so the majority of the things will be used for the school canteen. We have other stuff that cannot be used in the kitchen like toilet paper.”

Jacqueline Woods

“Well this should be a big help, because these things cost.”

Ingrid Hepburn

“Yes. Things like the milk. We have rice, beans, lots of other stuff that would normally cost a great deal. So when school opens on Monday I don’t have to buy some of these things. And I’m happy that this has happened, because lots of times small schools are left out.”

Lee Mark Chang, President, Belize Chinese Assn.

“We try to help out in anyway that we can. It doesn’t have to be the police or schools, generally, we try to help out the community.”

Jacqueline Woods

“How did you all go about getting the supplies?”

Lee Mark Chang

“One of my friends brought up the suggestion and said instead of helping out bigger institutions, let’s help out someone small to set an example.”

Jacqueline Woods

“So did you approach the various Chinese businesses here in town to give something?”

Lee Mark Chang

“Not really, we are donating this on behalf of a gentleman, Mr. Kung. He’s the one donating the stuff.”

The donation is worth over three thousand dollars.
