Training to Build Capacity for Strategic Planning and Management of Natural Resources
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, The Environment, Sustainable Development and Immigration is conducting a five-day training program to build capacity for strategic planning and management of natural resources in Belize. The objectives of the training include developing a sustainable training program and materials to facilitate unbiased and cost-efficient assessments of public and private investments; sensitizing key stakeholders on Natural Resource Valuation methodologies and their utility; and developing NRV expertise in Belize. The Natural Resource Valuation training is being administered to Government participants. Project Manager Judene Linares shares more details about the initiative.

“The whole idea behind the training essentially is to develop capacity in natural resource valuation which is pretty much a tool to support decision making and to support the work that is conducted by various departments on a daily basis. For example, such as damage assessments. We are in reintroducing these tools so that the technocrats can take into consideration the total economic value of ecosystems or the ecosystems they provide. This capacity development initiative is actually being financed by the United Nations Development Program and also the global environment facility; so it is being implemented under the overall capacity development project and the whole idea is to strengthen institutions and technicians with appropriate tools to support environmental manage.”
