Neal Refuses to Go But Second Vice President Will Take Charge

Eldred Neal

Prior to today’s special meeting of the Council of Management, Neal told News Five that he would not be stepping down as President of the P.S.U. until his term of office expires.  Today’s decision, taken in his absence, sees Second Vice President Kenneth Mortis succeed him at the helm of the union.  Mortis, a fireman by profession, was among the five councilors absent from today’s meeting.  He gets bumped up in rank because the union’s First Vice President Herman Pastor Junior is departing the country in the days ahead.  Here’s what Neal had to say when asked earlier this week if he would step down in the wake of the scandal.

Isani Cayetano

“In light of the firestorm that has resulted in the wake of this audio recording going viral, if I may, would you consider what many would think to be the honorable thing and just step down, based on everything that has come to light and may very well have tarnished your reputation as the president of the union.”

Eldred Neal, President, Public Service Union

“If you had heard in this documentation, this edited documentation, it referred to me stating clearly my lack of interest of even running for office again.  I was there at that point.  I was there last year at the AGM but I was tasked to serve.  I raised my hand and said make me.  A number of folks out there voted for me, predominantly all my friends, whom I still consider to be my friends, in Dangriga.  They came out and supported me and I’ll tell you, all the personal text that I’ve received since yesterday.  You see there’s no secret in and around what is occurring you know.  There’s been a fleecing of good, hard earned human resources. Our AGMs have been fireworks for too long, but this attempt at derailing me because if you look at the end of the letter, what it required, if I disrespected you so much why would you ask me to resign before the AGM and not put myself up back for reelection?  If I was as upset as those individuals who are suggesting that they have been harmed, mein!  It’s way beyond what this attempt is and sadly P.S.U. is the pawn in this game.”

News Five understands that all attempts have been made to notify Neal of the council’s decision, however, he did not take any phone calls, nor did he make himself available to be served with a letter.
