Wife Kills Husband with Single Stab in Seine Bight fight

Glenn Ramirez

A murder over the weekend involving a couple in Stann Creek has stunned the community.  In a case of domestic dispute, a husband was killed in Seine Bight, two days before he celebrated one year of marriage. On Friday night around eleven-thirty, Glenn Ramirez got into an altercation with his wife as he and his friends socialized at a popular restaurant in the village.  Deshawn Martinez Ramirez pulled out a knife and inflicted a fatal stab wound. Police have arrested and charged her. News Five’s Andrea Polanco has more on this homicide.

“I just wake up and get that shocking news – I stood on my verandah when I saw the crowd coming, I just waited here and one of his family members told me that his wife just juck ah down. So, I tell ah just juck him down? How comes she will juck him down? For what?”

Two days before their one year wedding anniversary, an argument between a Seine Bight couple ended in tragedy. On Friday night, thirty one year old Glenn Ramirez Junior was stabbed to death by his wife Deshawn Ramirez. The couple was out on the main street – about three hundred yards from their home –it is reported that they were socializing with friends but it is not clear if they were hanging out together. But shortly after Glenn arrived across from this restaurant after eleven p.m., they started to argue and Deshawn pulled a knife and stabbed her husband. Glenn’s mother, Agnes Ramirez recounts what she heard happened.

“All I heard was that he told her, ‘let’s go home.’ And she told him ‘I am not ready yet.’ ‘Let’s go home gial, I di come fi yuh.’ That is what I heard. I don’t know. And she slapped him and he slapped her back and they started to fight. They threw bottles at each other.”

Andrea Polanco

“What did she kill him with, Miss Agnes?”

Agnes Ramirez

“They say that it was with a knife. I wasn’t there but they said that she stabbed him with a knife.”

Andrea Polanco

“To which part of the body did she stab him?”

Agnes Ramirez

“Straight to the heart. My son took pictures and he showed me and that is when I see it. The little hole here – just a little hole right yah.”

Andrea Polanco

“One stab?”

Agnes Ramirez

“One stab.”

Andrea Polanco

“As it relates to your son and his wife – were those two drinking; were they under the influence of alcohol?”

Agnes Ramirez

“I don’t know if they were drinking. I cannot say, but they were fighting and it turned to a murder because that is a murder.”

This picture shows them in happier times – the day of their wedding. But for the past year, the union was marred by domestic disputes. Agnes Ramirez says she doesn’t know if there was violence between the couple; but what she does know is that they always ironed out their problems, so she didn’t think it would culminate to homicide. And so on Friday night when she received a call about a fight between the two she dismissed it.

Agnes Ramirez

“Miss Agnes come out yah because Jun Jun and Deshawn the fight. So, I tell the person, if Jun Jun and Deshawn the fight, tell them mek deh go home fi me because they nuh have no business out deh fi di put off wah show of themselves as husband and wife, mek people inna deh business. So tell dem go home fi me enuh. And I just put the phone done and I wanted to go back to sleep when the phone ring again. ‘Miss Agnes, please come out yah dah emergency. So, I said, emergency? What kind of emergency is this?  So, I said what is happening now then? I put on my pajamas and came out on my veranda and when I saw people starting to come and I said I wonder weh happen now, emergency? So, as I was turning around his family call me, ‘auntie, auntie, Jun Jun dead enuh. He deh pahn the ground, his wife juck ah down.”

Andrea Polanco

“Did they have a violent relationship?”

Deshawn Martinez Ramirez

Agnes Ramirez

“That I can’t answer you because I don’t live with them, I lived here at my house. But whenever she and him have a little problem she would always come and say Miss Agnes, Jun Jun the give me problem enuh. I would tell ah nuh worry bout Jun Jun, I gwein after Jun Jun and she would say he deh dah work and so whenever he come from work I would always go there and talk to both of them.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, despite all the issues they had in their marriage, I imagine you never thought that it would come to this?”

Agnes Ramirez

“I didn’t think so. I could not even imagine that my daughter in law weh I love so much would have killed my son. I could never think in my whole life that this girl would kill my son. I always try my best for her, like wise him because he loved her so much. Everything for my son, ‘my wife.’”

Ralph Moody

Police say Deshawn Ramirez has been charged for her husband’s murder and remanded. While police never received a formal report of domestic violence between the couple, they are aware that there were constant dispute between the two.

Sr. Supt Ralph Moody, Regional Commander, South

“I was informed that it is a domestic between both of them and that the male person id something to the female and the female took out a knife and assaulted the individual with it. Basically, that is the information that I have.”

Andrea Polanco

“Sir, was there any report made previously about perhaps domestic dispute between this couple?”

Sr. Supt Ralph Moody, Regional Commander, South

“Not that I know of.”

Glenn Ramirez

Reporter

“Based on the initial investigation, do we know if his couple has had any major arguments before this one?”

Sr. Supt Ralph Moody, Regional Commander, South

“Based on that yes, we do have information. But there was no report made to the police station. But if there is no report ever made at the station then the police cannot act to any such complaint.”

But could this murder have been prevented? Ramirez says that when the fight started between the couple no one intervened. She also received reports that a police officer was just nearby, but didn’t try to stop the fight. Police say they cannot confirm nor deny that allegation.

Agnes Ramirez

“They had a lot of family members there, a lot of villagers there who knows him good and who knows her well. I think if they had part that fight from the beginning that was not going to happen, but everyone just stand and watched. They said wife and husband dah nobody business. I get to understand that they call the police because he was in the restaurant; he was drinking; he didn’t get up to go and part this fight.  At least two persons came here and told me that they went and called this police to go and stop this fight. He just stayed there on his phone. I don’t know if he was calling for the Police man from Placencia, I don’t know. But he was there; he was nearby. But a police even in uniform or not in uniform because a police officer is a police officer 24/7. But if a police officer sees a fight, I think his duty is to go and stop that fight. If he can’t control that fight, fire three shots and she would have backed off or he would have backed off and that would not have happened to my son.”

Sr. Supt. Ralph Moody

“If I am off duty I have the right to socialize and I cannot confirm or deny if he was there or not. I don’t have that information.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, you don’t have any information if any on duty officer was there?”

Sr. Supt. Ralph Moody

“I cannot confirm nor deny.”

So, what exactly lead to this murder between this young couple? Agnes Ramirez says she has only one question.

Agnes Ramirez, Mother of Glenn Ramirez

“I don’t know what trigger Deshawn. I would really like to see her; to ask her only question why? That is the only question I want to ask her.”
