Girls vie for Miss Teen title

Story Picture
This weekend the stage at the Belize City Centre will be taken over by a bevy of beauties competing for the title of Miss Teen Belize. Each of the seven young ladies taking part in this year’s pageant professes confidence in winning the crown, but also realises that only one will walk home with the title. The competition will encompass several categories including talent, sports and formal wear, as well as a question and answer segment. Pageant Organizer Rhondine Pitts says Miss Teen Belize is not just another beauty contest.

Rhondine Pitts, Pageant Organizer

“We wanted to have a pageant that would target young women, give them something positive to do and at the same time give them a chance to be a role model for younger girls. They can expect to see a lot, because we have wonderful variety of girls, different personalities. Different talents, they have drama, dancing, singing and of course they are very intelligent.”

Pitts says that the contestants were chosen from a group of twelve young ladies after a preliminary contest in June.

And here is your chance to get better acquainted with the girls you’ll see on stage on Saturday night.

“Hello Belize, I’m eighteen year old Indera Mejia representing the industrious Sugar City.

“I am eighteen year old Risa Pascascio and I am from Ladyville Village.

“Hi, my name is Maniphta and I am fifteen years old and from Belize City.”

“Hello Belize, I am eighteen year old Marisol Chavarria.”

“Hi, I am sixteen year old Sylvia Gray representing Belize.”

“Hello everyone, my name is Stacey Leslie and I’m sixteen years old.”

“Hi, my name is Elida Williams. I am eighteen year old and from Belize City.”

Indera Mejia, Miss Teen Belize Contestant

“Well I am taking part in the Miss Teen Belize pageant because I believe that I have what it takes to be the next Miss Teen Belize. To just be yourself and don’t try to be a copycat like what the Creole would say. Just live your life to the fullest.”

Marisol Chavarria, Miss Teen Belize Contestant

“I believe I am unique in my own way. I am smart, not to mention beautiful, both inside and out and I believe that I can be a very, very important role model for the teenagers especially young ladies of Belize.”

Stacey Leslie, Miss Teen Belize Contestant

“First of all I have faith in God because without him nothing is possible. I think I really deserve to win because I put enough effort in. I practice, practice and practice.”

Marisol Chavarria

“I invite all Belizeans to come see beauty and talent at its best at the City Centre at seven-thirty Saturday night.”

Miss Teen Belize, now in its third year, is a production of WAVE Radio. This year’s pageant is being hosted by Rohjani Perriott and Edith Tesucum. Included in the winner’s package of prizes is fifteen hundred dollars in cash and a computer.
