Maya supporters made it to city despite transport problems
But up until almost the eleventh hour the supporters of the Toledo Alcaldes’ Association and the Maya Leaders Alliance were not certain that they would be able to make the trip to Belize City. They did and were out in numbers at the Battlefield Park. Cristina Coc explains.

“Two days ago when we applied for our permit to bring our buses to the city, we were denied our permit yet the other side’s permit was furnished rather quickly.”

“How did you manage to get them here since your permits were denied?”
Cristina Coc
“I spoke with the Chief Transport Officer, who rudely hung up one me and I will go on the record to say that I think that was very unprofessional. I put our request in writing and I demanded for a denial in writing, which was never given to me. I also told them that I would speak openly about this denial of the permit and I told them that if we didn’t come to court, our session wouldn’t happen because our lawyers would not have a hearing without their clients and all of these people are their clients or representatives of the client in this case.”

“And so…”
Cristina Coc
“And so basically, the decision came to the Transport Department saying that if you give us a list of the past times that you’ve come to Belize City, then we can furnish you with that permit. And that was done ‘til yesterday morning.”
