Thais Cowo Charged for Harm; Says Justice Must Be Served
This afternoon in Orange Walk, twenty-five-year-old mother of three, Thais Cowo of San Pablo Village, was arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of harm. She is accused of beating up teacher of San Pablo Government School, Ednita Cocom, on the school’s compound on Thursday afternoon. Her oldest son came home and reported that the teacher had physically assaulted him in class that day, even after the principal had intervened. After making bail late this afternoon, Cowo told us that she had come to Orange Walk Town expecting further investigation by police, through an interview with her son conducted by the Magistrate. Instead, she was detained and subsequently charged. She told Aaron Humes that justice must be served.
Thais Cowo, Charged for Harm
“It was like a setup because Friday, in the night, P.C. Canul called and told me to come for an interview; the Magistrate would interview my son – but it was a lie, he just set me up further. I don’t recall the name of the police but she charged me and they sent me back there then. The magistrate didn’t interview my son and I was charged for harm. The teacher got away free; they say Police deh with she, Ministry, almost everybody deh with she, part of she but I have somebody who will take justice for me; the one above will take justice for me.”
Cowo returns to court on August thirtieth.
