Cayo robbery suspect arrested
A Belize City man, accused of travelling seventy-two miles to rob a jewellery store, today found himself in silver bangles in front of a San Ignacio Magistrate. Twenty-five year old Frank Flowers is accused of robbing J & J Jewellery Shop at the Plaza Del Rio Mall on June twentieth. He and another man are said to have gone to the jewellery shop and enquired about buying a wedding ring; but instead of offering cash, the men held up the cashier at gunpoint and helped themselves to over forty-six thousand dollars worth of gold and diamonds. Officer in charge of the San Ignacio Police station, Gilroy Nicholas, says community participation and good police work followed the suspect across the country to bring him in.

“On Saturday with the help of John Public, we tracked Frank Flowers, twenty-four years of Forty-two East Canal, from Belize City unto the Western border; he and a companion. We understood that he was going over to Melchor to do some illegal activities. We found on his persons a number of the pieces of the jewellery, which was allegedly stolen from miss Alfaro’s business place. So with that we arrested him and charged him for the crime of robbery. He was taken to court this morning, he was offered bail to the sum of ten thousand dollars.”
“Without the help of the public, we won’t be able to do nothing at all when it comes to investigation. You can have a PhD in police science, a Doctorate degree in police science or a Masters Degree in police science, and if you don’t have John Public to assist you, you won’t be successful. So I would say thanks to John Public out there who assist us greatly in many. I will say that we have approximately eighty-five percent detection rate of crime. I am not saying that crime is not happening in San Ignacio, but we have approximately eighty-five percent detection rate and conviction, because we don’t make arrests for statistical arrest sake, we arrest when we have evidence.”
Police say they have identified the other suspect and it’s just a matter of time before he is in custody. Flowers was offered bail of ten thousand dollars, which he was unable to meet. He has been remanded to prison and will reappear in court on September second.
