Investment committee named for S.S.B.
Its composition was a point of friction in the controversy over the Social Security Bill, but the matter was eventually resolved through compromise. And today the new Social Security Investment Committee was formally appointed by the Minister of Finance. Chairman is Lourdes Smith, a government representative, is joined on the government side by Hilly Martinez and S.S.B. General Manager Narda Garcia. Deputy Chairman is Mike Polonio of the Chamber of Commerce and trade unionist Antonio Gonzales. Under the amended regulations a three-person quorum of the committee must include at least one non-governmental representative. Previous boards have been criticized for loaning Social Security funds to unsound ventures controlled by government cronies.
