Teachers, G.O.B. cooperate on housing
Not long ago they were walking the picket line in protest of government’s plan to raise Social Security contributions. Today, the Belize National teacher’s Union is working closely with G.O.B. to increase housing opportunities for teachers. In a meeting with Minister of Housing Cordel Hyde and his top officials, B.N.T.U. officers worked out details of a plan to give members top priority to own homes in Mahogany Heights, Fresh Pond and Sunset Park areas. The B.N.T.U.’s Eloisa Trujeque is asking teachers to let the union know what they want.

“In September I am going to do a survey with my other counterparts throughout the country and we are going to get a survey of all those teachers in the different areas that need houses so that they too can benefit from this project. And so it is not only for Belize City, so please teachers countrywide, you’re in on this project too.”
Mahogany Heights is the area ready for the quickest occupation, as well as having the largest inventory of houses and lots.
