Bystanders chase down Cayo crooks
In another crime that was quickly solved, reports from the Cayo District indicate that public-spirited citizens chased after a pair of robbers and managed to send one to jail. According to police, around eleven this morning two men jumped a truck driver for Quality Poultry who had just made a delivery at a shop along the Western Highway in Santa Elena. They took two thousand, two hundred and ten dollars in cash, along with the driver’s calculator and keys and ran off. That’s when a number of bystanders who witnessed the crime took off in hot pursuit. They caught up with one of the robbers, recovered all the stolen items and held the jacker until the cops arrived. The culprit, now cooling his heels at the San Ignacio lock-up, will be charged shortly, while his sidekick, who has been identified, is being sought by police. Both suspects are said to reside in Belize City.
